A B O U T

Bawdsey Hall Wildlife Photography Hides is located on one of Suffolks most diverse and intimate private nature reserves in the region, located along the Suffolk Heritage Coast (AONB) , on the peninsula between the River Deben and the North sea. At Bawdsey Hall our grounds containing mature woods, large ponds, old outbuildings & meadow land offer a variety of different habitats for local wildlife, making Bawdsey Hall a wildlife haven and home to creatures of all shapes and sizes. Bawdsey Hall Wildlife Photography Hides were on the BBC Winterwatch , featuring our resident Polecats and a range of other nocturnal wildlife that visits the area most nights. Michaela Strachan and the BBC team visited in January 2022.

The Bawdsey Hall Wildlife Photography Experience offers many unique viewpoints and perspectives, perfect for wildlife photographers and enthusiasts. We offer several different experience packages that are each unique and offer the possibility to witness a variety of animal behaviour. The main attraction of The Bawdsey Hall Wildlife Experience is our purpose built Wildlife Photography area that centres around a large reflection pond and wildflower garden. The area is constantly lit with low powered led lights allowing the nocturnal wildlife to gradually become accustomed to the light and feel comfortable visiting the pond. This area is regularly visited by our resident Badgers, Polecats, Muntjac, Foxes, Tawny Owls, Herons and many other creatures.

Opposite the pond are our two large Hides. First of all, the main ground floor hide gives you a great view over the entire photography area and surrounding grounds. The second perspective is viewed by our unique sunken hide that boasts the ability to get your cameras down low, closer to the action and eye level with wildlife. The perfect placement of this hide gives photographers the ability to take full advantage of the reflections projected onto the still water canvas and capture some amazing reflection shots.

Although the led lights are there to help us view the area at night so we can witness the fantastic nightlife, activity doesn’t slow down during the day. With the possibility to witness a wide range of birds, including, if you’re lucky, Kingfishers, SparrowHawks, Kestrels, or one of our resident Buzzards visiting the feeding station.
